What is brand identity?

Brand identity is the visible system a company uses to present itself: logo, colour, typography, imagery, and the rules for how they work together. It's the part of branding that people see and recognise, but it only works when it's built on top of a clear strategy.

Branding vs logo: what's the difference?

A logo is one element inside a brand. Branding is the entire system of decisions that shape how a company is perceived: positioning, messaging, visual identity, tone of voice, and the consistency of how all of those show up across every touchpoint.

Why is brand strategy important?

Brand strategy is the foundation that every visual and verbal decision is built on. Without it, design becomes guesswork, messaging becomes inconsistent, and the brand fails to differentiate from competitors. With it, every choice has a reason and the brand can scale without losing coherence.

What happens without brand strategy?

You end up with a visual system that looks polished but doesn't differentiate, doesn't scale, and doesn't survive contact with reality. Within a year or two, the company is paying to redesign it because the original choices have no foundation to defend them.

Is branding an investment or an expense?

Branding is an investment when it's done with strategy and intention. It's an expense when it's treated as decoration. The difference shows up in how long the work lasts and how much it earns back.
